"Actualizing the Fundamental Point:

The deep wisdom of Zen Master Dogen"

11am, Rev. Paul John Roach

Guest Speaker

Sanctuary & Livestream

Life is simpler and more magnificent than we often realize. In a world of distraction and confusion we will learn to experience that simplicity.

About Rev. Paul John:

Paul John Roach is a native of Wales, UK.

A graduate of Jesus College, Oxford University, Paul has BA and MA degrees in English and a postgraduate degree in Education from the University of Wales. Paul was ordained at Unity Ministerial School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1988.

Paul served as the Senior Minister at Unity of Fort Worth from 1988 until retiring in 2018. He has also served the Unity movement on several boards and teams including the board of Unity World Headquarters.

Paul hosted a podcast entitled World Spirituality, with Rev. Paul John Roach for 14 years, interviewing spiritual leaders and authors from around the world. The podcasts are archived on Podbean, Spotify, and Apple.

Paul is the author of the award winning book Unity and World Religions which focuses on the perennial philosophy within all spiritual traditions. He has written a number of articles for Unity Magazine and other publications. He is currently working on his second book about his journey to India in 1976.

Paul has traveled extensively throughout the world including extended stays in India and Nepal. His interests include writing, poetry, ecological social action, birding, bicycling, walking, hiking, and gardening. Paul believes joy, laughter, and gratitude are essential qualities on the spiritual path.

Paul was married to Davis Hoffman-Roach from 1978 until her death in 2003. They have one daughter, Miriam. Paul married Wendy Vann in 2006. She is a retired builder, artist, and sailor, and active in service to the local community. Wendy has one daughter, Nataleigh. Together they have four grandchildren.

"Living Humbly and Harmoniously"

Dr. Nancy Little, LPC

Licensed Unity Teacher

Guest Speaker

Sanctuary & Livestream

What’s stirring in you during this season of gratitude? How do you count your blessings amid commotion and confusion? Where can you incorporate spiritual practices in your everyday life considering the numerous changes taking place around you?

Join Dr. Nancy Little, LUT, on Sunday, November 17, to explore the value of gratitude, humility, and heightened awareness of “the good” flowing in and through your experiences. Nancy will guide you through a look at these topics from a Unity metaphysical perspective, through the lens of varied philosophers, and through Scripture. You will have “takeaways” to support your spiritual well-being in invaluable ways!

YOUR COMMUNITY

Opportunities and Upcoming Events

As you may know, we recently met with the individual SpiritGroups for input about our ministry, who we want to be, and what qualities we most desire in our next minister.

This Sunday, November 10th, we will meet in the sanctuary to share the results of those discussions and allow for input from others in our community.

Please plan on joining us. We will begin right after church. Light snacks will be provided.

Thanks,

Steven D. Morris

Chair - Search and Find Committee

Join us for coffee and lite bites before Sunday Service. Drop by the Administration Building between 10:00 and 10:45am and meet other folks, connect, and enjoy a cup of coffee. We look forward to seeing you there!

And by the way...

Bring out your hidden barista! – volunteer to help with set up and refreshments at our new Common Grounds gatherings. Contact Julie Strittmatter 469-569-0446  westjulianam@gmail.com  to find out more.

In a way, Unity of Arlington is back to "square one"

The Board is pleased to announce that we have brought back Square as an option for your giving convenience. In the sanctuary the old iPads have been retired and in their place is the new POS Square register. We have also added a link to Square on our website.

Now, with three apps (Square, Tithe.ly, and PayPal) available, we believe you will be able to determine which is best for you. We do think you should know, however, that of the three, PayPal has the highest fees with no option to cover the fee and no option for you to designate the purpose of your donation. Both Square and Tithe.ly give you the ability to designate. All three do accommodate setting up regular, recurring donations.

You can click on any donate button on the unityofarlington.org website or use the following direct link:

Greeters Needed!

Remember how it felt the first time you walked through the doors of Unity of Arlington? How nice it was to have someone smile, say "Hi," and welcome you into the sanctuary? It’s time to give some of that warm feeling back by volunteering to be a greeter and help make everyone who comes through our doors feel loved and welcome. Talk to Marion Tudor at church, call her at 817-929-3724, or email her at granny0497@gmail.com  to sign up.

Hagar’s Heart works to provide self-care support and well-being to survivors of domestic violence.

Our volunteers are empathetic, non-judgmental, and care about the lives of others. Some are survivors of domestic violence; others just want to be part of a strong community. All care about the lives of others.

FOR THE COMMON GOOD

Trust the Larger Hope

by Allan Hamilton, M.D.

Hope unites communities and drives social change. It is the force of collective action and belief that makes a better world a possibility. Hope encourages empathy and compassion and helps us see potential in others. Hope may not be tangible, but it is always palpable. Hope is the essential ingredient that can spell the difference between giving up and giving in or pressing on and standing up. Hope is the agent that shapes our goals and aspirations while simultaneously shielding them from despair. Hope is the workhorse of the best of civilization.
